WPL (Workplace Learning)
From year 10, students are placed in a ‘simulated’ workplace learning program at Landsdale Farm School. This program is either part of a Certificate 1 Vocational Pathways or ASDAN, Towards Independence (Work Awareness). During this program, students learn skills that will make them safe and successful when they go out to work experience. If staff feel a student is ready, the student may be placed in a ‘real’ work placement.
In years 11 and 12, all students are enrolled in Authority Developed Workplace Learning (ADWPL) or Workright. In consultation with the Workplace Learning co-ordinator, students are placed in a work placement that as much as possible suits their interests and abilities. Students are also supported, according to their needs, by Education Assistants. Examples of placements are: Coles, Jim Kidd, Bunnings, Event Cinemas, Workpower, ACTIV Industries and Goodwill Engineering. Wherever possible, with support, students catch public transport to and from their work placement. In year 12, if a work placement is successful, students are encouraged and supported to seek employment with that employer. Our goal is for every student to have a successful transition from school to adult life, and employment can be a significant contributor to this success.
